Unique Spiciness from the Ginger Flower Fragrance
Jiang Hua Xiang(薑花香), one of the top ten aroma types of Phoenix Dan Cong Oolong Tea. Jiang Hua Xiang literally means Ginger Flower Aroma, because it has a unique and charming floral notes similar to the natural fragrance of ginger flower. It was called “Ginger Mother Fragrance” in ancient times, and now It is also called “Tong Tian Xiang”, which means the high aroma can be smelled in heaven, precisely described how aromatic it is. Apart from its high aroma, people always mention about the spiciness of this aroma. Of course, it’s not that spicy like the ginger, but it has a very unique undertone of spiciness and woody notes.
The Origin of Jiang Hua Xiang varietal
According to legend, the mother tree was planted in the Ming Dynasty and has a history of more than 400 years. It is mainly distributed in Zhong Ping Village, Feng Xi Village Committee, Feng Huang Town, in Chao An County of Guangdong Province. At present, it is mainly grown in Wudong Mountain tea area in Feng Huang Town.
Precious variety with limited annual yield
The yield per plant of Ginger Flower Fragrance is not very high among the top ten fragrance types of Dancong. Its annual tea production amount is limited, and the transaction price per kilogram is relatively high among the Dancong Tea. In 2010, it was sold for more than 60,000 yuan per 500 grams of total tea, setting the highest transaction record for Fenghuang Dancong tea at that time, and became the most expensive Phoenix tea in history at that time. Later, the record was set by the Song Zhong in 2014. The Song Zhong was auctioned at a sky-high price of 1 million yuan per catty, which can be called the myth of Dancong tea.
