The unique Yunnan Yan Cha Rock Tea from Bang Dong
This exceptional 2021 Bang Dong Yan Cha Raw Pu-erh Tea Cake is crafted from the early spring harvest of ancient tea trees, around 100 years old, this tea captures the essence of the region’s unique rocky “Yan Cha” flavour.
Bang Dong, located near Lincang and surrounded by the Lan Cang River, is renowned for its Yan Cha, or “Rock Tea,” a term usually associated with the famous Wuyi rock tea from Fujian. However, Yunnan has its own version of Yan Cha made from Pu-erh tea, and the Bang Dong Yan Cha Rock Tea stands as a shining example. The high altitude and rocky terrain of Bang Dong contribute to the tea’s exceptional quality, as the plants absorb the rich minerals from the rocky soil, creating a distinct aromatic profile known as the “rock rhythm.”
The steep slopes and rocky landscape of Bang Dong lend a unique character to this tea, reminiscent of Yan Cha (rock oolong). With each sip, you’ll experience a thick and layered mouthfeel, followed by a subtle carbonated sensation in the throat, which tea enthusiasts adore. The flavor profile is a symphony of sweet fruits and minerals, creating a comforting yet refreshing experience reminiscent of ancient trees.
