Yong Chun Fo Shou Buddha’s Hands Oolong Tea

Origin and Story –

Why is it called Yong Chun Fo Shou “Buddha’s Hands”?

Yong Chun Fo shou is one of the oldest kind of Oolong Tea, having more than 300 years of history. It is originated from Yong Chun, Fujian. The area is surrounded with high mountain ranged from 600-800m.

The leaves is fat and big like the Buddha’s Hands, the aroma is also like the fruity notes of a fruit called “Buddha’s Hand Citron”, thus people called it Yong Chun Fo Shou “Buddha’s Hands” Tea.

There is another story about its name, which said the Tea is originated by a Monk in a monastery. In Qing dynasty, a monk try to grow a Tea plant by propagating cutting with the Buddha’s Hand Citron Tree, resulting in a special Tea with unique citron notes of “Buddha’s Hand Citron”.

2023 batch of Yong Chun Fo Shou

This 2023 batch of Yong Chun Fo Shou oolong tea is medium roasted. The roasting process helps to preserve the natural flavors of the tea while raising the aroma and adding a toasted note.

What does it taste like?

Yong Chun Fo Shou is famous of its “Xue Li” flavour, Xue Li means snow pear, it is a fruit famous of its sweetness. The tea is especially distinctive in its sweet citrus and floral notes, with lingering snow pear sweetness.

Making Process:

Plucking Tea Buds with 2-3 leaves. After plucking the tea leaves, it undergoes steps of sun-drying, withering, shaking/”Yao Qing”, kill-green, rolling, first-time roasting, shaping, and second-time roasting, and final rolling, shaping and drying.
