Yingde Black Tea – A Strong and Sweet Black Tea made of Yunnan Big Leaf Cultivar
Yingde Black Tea, also called as Yingde Hong Cha, is a popular kind of black tea from Yingde city in Guangdong. It is one of the three most famous black tea in China, together with “Keemun Black Tea” and “Dian Hong Black Tea”. People usually got mixed up with the name of “Yingde Hong Cha” and “Ying Hong No.9”. In fact,there are several sub-kind of Yingde Hong Cha, including “Huang Jin Gui Hong Cha”, “No.12 Hong Cha”, “Jin Xuan Hong Cha”, “Small leaves Hong Cha”, and “Ying Hong No.9 is the most famous kind of Yingde Hong Cha.
Ying Hong No.9 is a kind of Yingde Hong Cha. Its name “Ying Hong No.9″is the short form of “Ying De Hong Cha”, and “No.9” is the cultivar name of the tea tree. This No.9 cultivar is originated and bred from Yunnan Big Leaf Varietal in the 1960s by the Guangdong Tea Research Institute. A great amount of the Tea is exported oversea at that time, especially to the England and other European countries. It is said that Yingde Hong Cha is one of the favourite teas of the Queen Elizabeth II. The Queen used it to serve her guests in a banquet.
The tea leaves of Ying Hong No.9 is very big, which is similar to the leaves of Yunnan Big Leaf varietal. Its dry leaves is twisted and dark brown in colour with apparent golden pekoe. It tastes strong, very mellow with fruity notes and hint of cocoa and caramel. Although it is a kind of strong flavor black tea, you can also find an undertones of elegant floral notes in it.
