Qimen An Cha – 2015 Mao Jian Dark Tea
Qi Men An Cha is a kind of post fermented compressed dark tea from Qi Men, Anhui in China. The making of Qi Men An Cha can be dated back to Ming Dynasty (around 1725), in the area called “Lu Xi” and “Rong Kou” in Qi Men. The production was unfortunately being stopped for decades because of the War. People started to resume its production in the 1980s, and start to sell oversea to Hong Kong and Southeast Asia.
Qimen area is surrounded with mountains, green area, and bamboo forest, the growing area of Tea Tree situated in high mountain, higher than 800m. The weather is warm with good humidity, which created a very good environment for tea-making.
The aged Qi Men An Cha is a kind of warm-natured teas in the Chinese Medicine perspective. It is considered to be a healthy drink or medicine in Southeast Asia, Southern China and Hong Kong. The weather of those places is hot and high in humidity, people think drinking An Cha can ease the comfortableness.
Making Process:
After plucking the tea leaves, it undergoes steps of drying, kill-green, drying, picking, baking, wilting, steaming, putting into the bamboo basket, and final drying.

Tasting Notes: aged flavor, sweet,woody, light hint of “bamboo”. The loner its age, the sweeter it become. The tea is stored for more than 7 years, the charcoal flavor became mild, it turns out to be better in mouthfeel with sweeter taste.
