Distinguish 4 different kinds of Min Nan Oolong Tea This 4 kinds of renowned Oolong, is usually being confused and called as “Tie Guan Yin” nowaday. However, they are actually from different varietal, and having different taste and appearence. Qing Xiang Tie Guan Yin (清香鐵觀音) 2022 “Qing Xiang” means light aroma or lightly roasted. It is lighter in fermentation level and is only lightly roasted in the final step of making process. As a result, the dry leaves is in bright green colour, and liquor is in light green yellow colour. The taste is light but with high floral and orchid notes, An unique “Yin Rhyme”can be found in Tie Guan Yin, which means the lingering aroma and sweetness in the throat. Nong Xiang Tie Guan Yin (濃香鐵觀音) 2022 “Nong Xiang” means high aroma or heavily roasted. Nong Xiang Tie Guan Yin is higher in fermentation level and is heavily roasted in the final step of making process. As a result, the dry leaves is in dark green colour, and liquor is in darker yellow colour. The taste and mouthfeel is rich with high aroma, notes of floral, fruity and honey with roasted flavour. “Ben Shan” ,which means “Original Mountain” in Chinese. Its dry leave is very green, the liquor is in light green yellow colour, which looks very similar to Tie Guan Yin. But the Taste is relatively stronger with vegetal notes. “Huang Jin Gui”, which means Golden Osmanthus. Its dry leave is in notably yellowish green colour, and the liquor is in distincitve golden yellow colour. Its unique flowery aroma is having a special hint of Osmanthus notes.
