Blue and White Porcelain Chinese Cabbages Teacup
Made of traditional Chinese blue-and-white porcelain in Jingdezhen. This teacup features beautifully hand-painted Chinese cabbage, also known as pak choi or bok choy. In traditional Chinese culture, the Chinese cabbage holds symbolic meaning, as its pronunciation in Chinese resembles the phrase for “million wealth” (百财, bǎi cái). For this reason, the vegetable was a popular motif in ancient teaware designs, reflecting wishes for prosperity and abundance. The cabbage patterns on the teacup often appear in a playful and whimsical style, with the leaves curling gracefully and exaggerated details that give them a cute and endearing charm.
