Huang Shan Mao Feng Green Tea

Huang Shan Mao Feng 黃山毛峰 is one of the 10 most famous Chinese teas, originating from Huang Shan during the Qing Dynasty (1644 – 1912). The renowned Huang Shan (Yellow Mountain) region in Anhui is celebrated as one of China’s most prestigious tea-producing areas, famous for yielding several legendary teas such as Tai Ping Hou Kui, Keemun Black Tea, and, of course, Huang Shan Mao Feng. Its name “Huang Shan” proudly indicates this illustrious place of origin, while Mao Feng translates to “Fur Peak”, as the tea is made of fine and downy tea leaves full of white pekoe.
Taste and Aroma of Huang Shan Mao Feng
When talking about green tea, grassiness may be the first word that comes to mind, but Huang Shan Mao Feng can be considered an elegant green tea with a high profile of sweetness, low astringency, and an apparent floral note.
This Year’s Selections:
To suit your personal palate, this year we offer this beautiful tea in two distinct grades, sourced from the core production area of Fu Xi in Huizhou, located within the Huang Shan region of Anhui:

- Premium Grade: This year’s premium batch is especially small in shape with fat buds, following a plucking standard of one bud and one to two leaves. This first flush batch is harvested from wild local tea trees in the high mountain area. Because the tea leaves from this area contain rich components and minerals, and the first flush batch has accumulated rich nutrients over the winter, the mouthfeel is incredibly layered and elegant. It is refreshing, soft, and buttery in mouthfeel, offering a delicate orchid floral taste with a lingering sweetness.
- Classic Strong Fragrance Grade: For those who prefer a more robust and highly aromatic cup, our Classic grade is a wonderful choice. It is harvested a bit later than the first flush batch, with a plucking standard of one bud and two to three leaves. Its leaves are larger and darker in color than those of the first flush batch. Specially processed and baked at a higher temperature, it boasts a delightfully strong, pronounced chestnut fragrance. It delivers a bolder, lively floral and chestnut scent that immediately awakens the senses, making it an incredibly satisfying and aromatic choice for daily drinking.
History of Huang Shan Mao Feng
Yellow Mountain is a famous forest-covered tea mountain situated in Fu Xi Xiang, Anhui, located at 30° north latitude. It is high in altitude, averaging over 800m. The humid climate, excellent soil conditions, and natural mountain landscape create a highly favorable growing environment for tea. In 1875, Huang Shan Mao Feng was invented by a merchant named Mr. Xie Zheng An. He opened a tea farm called “Tian Hu Tea Garden” in Cao Xi 漕溪, situated in the southern part of Yellow Mountain, between 600-800m above sea level. It was originally called “Yun Wu” Tea, which means “Cloud and Mist Tea”, as it is grown in high mountains surrounded by clouds and mist. Because of its exceptional quality and widespread popularity among tea lovers, it is now recognized as one of the ten most famous teas in China today.
