2023 Ben Shan Oolong Tea (本山)
Ben Shan, which means “Original Mountain” in Chinese, which is one of the most famous oolong tea in Min Nan area (southern part of Fujian). The varietal of Ben Shan is a “close relative” to Tie Guan Yin, as its growth and adaptability are strong, which is very suitable to make oolong tea. As Ben Shan looks and taste like Tie Guan Yin, many people get confused between two of them easily. In fact, they are similar but quite different when you look at it closely and taste it, the leave of Ben Shan is relatively smaller and thinner than Tie Guan Yin, the dry leaves is in ball shape and look very green, the liquor is in light yellowish-green colour, the tone of green colour is relatively more apparent than Tie Guan Yin. When you taste it, the mouthfeel and fragrant is also similar to Tie Guan Yin but it taste relatively lighter. The biggest difference is that Ben Shan has a unique variety of fragrance, a very pleasant floral notes, well balanced with a fresh green bean notes. It is a valuable choice if you like the unroasted green style Oolong Tea.
