Inspired by the ancient Juci technique—a traditional method of repairing ceramics using lacquer and gold—this gaiwan features an embossed staple repair pattern on the surface. While it does not undergo the actual repair process, the staple decoration celebrates the beauty of imperfections, echoing the spirit of this celebrated art form.
Each gaiwan is made of porcelain, and undergone the silver plating craftmanship. Sterling silver is finely ground into powder and being applied onto the surface of the gaiwan, it was then fired at high temperatures over 1330°c, allowing for a beautiful application on the gaiwan’s surface. This technique not only imparts a stunning silver surface, but also heat and water resistant. Silver is known for its bactericidal effect, making your teacup a hygienic choice for serving tea and it is safe to use.
