In this blind tasting box, it includes four renowned kinds of Min Nan Oolong which is usually being called as “Tie Guan Yin”, including “Qing Xiang Tie Guan Yin, “Nong Xiang Tie Guan Yin”, “Huang Jin Gui”, and “Ben Shan”. Distinguish 4 different kinds of Min Nan Oolong Tea

This 4 kinds of renowned Oolong, is usually being confused and called as “Tie Guan Yin” nowaday. However, they are actually from different varietal, and having different taste and appearence.

Qing Xiang Tie Guan Yin (清香鐵觀音) 2022

“Qing Xiang” means light aroma or lightly roasted. It is lighter in fermentation level and is only lightly roasted in the final step of making process. As a result, the dry leaves is in bright green colour, and liquor is in light green yellow colour. The taste is light but with high floral and orchid notes, An unique “Yin Rhyme”can be found in Tie Guan Yin, which means the lingering aroma and sweetness in the throat.

  • Varietal: Tie Guan Yin
  • Dry Leaves: bright green rolled shape like a dragonfly head
  • Wet Leaves: Green, thick and spiral shaped, sometimes with broken red edge on the leaves
  • Liquor: light green yellow
  • Taste: flowery, orchid notes, aromatic, slightly vegetal

Nong Xiang Tie Guan Yin (濃香鐵觀音) 2022

“Nong Xiang” means high aroma or heavily roasted. Nong Xiang Tie Guan Yin is higher in fermentation level and is heavily roasted in the final step of making process. As a result, the dry leaves is in dark green colour, and liquor is in darker yellow colour. The taste and mouthfeel is rich with high aroma, notes of floral, fruity and honey with roasted flavour.

  • Varietal: Tie Guan Yin
  • Dry Leaves: dark green rolled shape like a dragonfly head
  • Wet Leaves: dark green, thick and spiral shaped, sometimes with broken red edge on the leaves
  • Liquor: light green yellow
  • Taste: floral, fruity, honey, roasted flavour

Ben Shan (本山) 2022

“Ben Shan” ,which means “Original Mountain” in Chinese. Its dry leave is very green, the liquor is in light green yellow colour, which looks very similar to Tie Guan Yin. But the Taste is relatively stronger with vegetal notes.

  • Varietal: Ben Shan
  • Dry Leaves: bright green rolled shape
  • Wet Leaves: Yellow-Green, longer shape than Tie Guan Yin,and sharper at the end of the leaves
  • Liquor: light green yellow
  • Taste: floral, fruity, vegetal

Huang Jin Gui (黃金桂) 2022

“Huang Jin Gui”, which means Golden Osmanthus. Its dry leave is in notably yellowish green colour, and the liquor is in distincitve golden yellow colour. Its unique flowery aroma is having a special hint of Osmanthus notes.

  • Varietal: Huang Jin Gui
  • Dry Leaves: bright yellowish green rolled shape
  • Wet Leaves: Yellow Green, smaller and thinner shape than Tie Guan Yin
  • Liquor: light green yellow
  • Taste: floral, fruity, notes of osmanthus
